Welcome to My Music… And welcome to these introductory notes.
It is a bit self-indulgent for anyone to think that others really want to know all about them. So, I shall keep these notes brief.
I was born in England in the middle of the last century. (Thus, Mid Century Music)
My family emigrated to Canada when I was 6.
I reside with my wonderful wife in Vancouver, Canada… and I have wonderful children.
On Feb 9, 1964, I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show and my musical journey began in earnest.
My sister is a talented musician. When we were young, we played guitar and sang together…. and still do.
I played in several bands whilst in high School / University
I delayed getting a “real job” for a few years… I earned a meagre living as a vocalist / guitar player in the early 1970’s and eventually decided to join mainstream society and begin a business career.
I continued to play in miscellaneous bands…. Best wishes to my friends Mike, Steve and Jim members of MARS (“Middle Age Rock Stars”). We were middle aged at the time.
My business career is winding down (not quite over) and thus, over the past few years, I have been able to focus on music.
I have written many songs. At time of making these notes I have 2 albums uploaded to my website and to streaming services… a total of 24 songs. I have enough inventory for several more albums.
Some are “just songs” but many have a theme or thesis. I also point out that if I write a song about dementia (Someone Special) it doesn’t mean that I have dementia or if the song is about suicide (By Your Side). It doesn’t mean that’s in my plans. And if I express an opinion about religion or politics… it’s a song…it’s not necessarily my opinion.
And some of my songs are just love songs (Lullaby…Till the End of Time)
I enjoy starting with a thesis, composing a tune and trying to imagine lyrics with the right cadence.
So here is a brief note on each of the 24 Songs uploaded so far:
Album 1 Mid Century Music
Some Day…. A simple song about romance
Second Thoughts…. A song about regret (regret about saying something that undermined a relation.
Sunday Evening…. An allegory … the seven days of a week represent our lives; and the week is nearly over.
Asking Why…… The song raises the question of whether there is a God… but no conclusion is verbalized.
To Get to Spain… Sometimes we need to step back and approach problems with a new perspective.
The Things I Wish to Say… Yes, it sounds like a 1970’s love song…I wrote it in 1970. Referring to a number of allegories in nature, a (young) person is afraid to reveal his feeling of love, for fear of rejection.
Ms. Julia…. (I couldn’t just call the song Julia…. The Beatles have a song with that title) … (The name Julia has the right cadence) …The song notes that men (heterosexual men) can’t help but look at beautiful women.
Someone Special…. An elderly gentleman has dementia and has been institutionalized… and no longer recognizes his wife.
Love Will Find a Way…… (written circa 1971) …The thesis is that “love conquers all”; and when I wrote it there was a spiritual overtone.
By Your Side…An elderly couple in failing health have decided to act on their mutual suicide pact.
Till the End of Time… Just a love song…with a note that relationships are a journey.
Fashionably Late……When we die, there will likely be a Celebration of Life. I plan to be late for mine, to make the most of my time and to celebrate the person I am sharing my time with.

Cul de Sac…. The thesis is that there is no afterlife… Everything just ends.
1964…. A celebration of music from this era.
I Think of You…. A person (could be any gender) has lost their lover (any gender) and one assumes that the lover has passed away.
Rose Valley Rose…. My wife comes from Rose Valley, Saskatchewan.
Lullaby… A love song… composed circa 1971.
A Minute to Midnight…. Maybe we are all part of a simulation… and have failed to live up to expectations. So, the story is about to end.
Gas Can Café…. One of my sisters-in-law used to be the proprietor of the Gas Can Café in Humbolt, Saskatchewan.
What’s the Music Like?....An old man is on his deathbed. And he expects to go to Hell.
In Time…. As we age our friends are passing away…and we can’t replace longtime friends.
Knowing What I Know Now… At multiple points in our lives, we look back and think that we would have done things differently with the knowledge of hindsight.
All My Life… A song about spending one’s life waiting for things to happen and therefore never finding any real meaning.
In the Middle…...We have both a bright side and a dark side to our psyche. And we can’t entirely shed the Dark Side.
